The George and Helen Vari

Simulation Centre

The George and Helen Vari Simulation Centre offers an immersive, interactive learning environment. It is designed to replicate a variety of real-life situations, procedures, and environments for students from various disciplines including nursing, social work, criminal justice as well as practicing professionals and community partners.

Endless Digital Possibilities

The Simulation Centre also features two spaces equipped with immersive projection technology, which can be transformed into healthcare settings such as a hospital, crime scene, or home, school, post-secondary institution or community settings, including disaster scenarios such as a fire, and large group gatherings. Students navigate the immersive environment using interactive touch points and 360-degree cameras. The spaces can be staged to represent diverse cases for interprofessional learners.

The Simulation Centre also includes a home apartment setting that can be used for simulation for learners from multiple disciplines whose line of work may require them to be in a client's home, such as social work or nursing home visits, crime scene investigations, and more.

The Space

The Simulation Centre features a variety of spaces where simulated scenarios come to life. These spaces include:

  • 4 hospital simulation suites, complete with high-fidelity manikins including neonatal, junior, and adult manikins as well as birthing models. Low-fidelity simulators are also available to assist students in developing specific clinical skills such as wound care.
  • 2 immersive rooms that can be transformed into a variety of settings and environments including education classrooms, disaster scenes, or task trainers such as anatomy and physiology interactive touch-wall technology
  • 1 large classroom/laboratory setting for traditional learning environments and to practice skill based learning
